THE URGENCY TO TELL A STORY,
THE NECESSITY TO TAKE THE TIME TO TELL IT

Canan (Ja’anan) Marasligil (she/they) is a multilingual & intersectional feminist writer, artist, literary translator, performer, editor, podcaster, and cultural programmes curator based in Amsterdam.

She designed The Attention Span to publish their work independently, creating her own space where they can take the time to reflect, to analyse and to imagine our societies through writing, art and culture.

There is a lot of noise made in the pursuit of instant gratification by way too many uncaring voices.

Welcome to my online creative space! My name is Canan Marasligil (pronounced Ja’anan), and I use the pronouns she/they, my preference being a mix when referring to me and my work. I am an intersectional feminist working across various media, with reflection, analysis and imagination always at the centre.

I work in the cultural and not-for-profit sector, focusing my activities on artistic and literary projects that support anti-racism and the fight against systemic discrimination, LGBTQ+ voices, freedom of expression, climate justice, inclusion and diversity as well as equal opportunities for all. Everything I do is fueled by my values and perspective on the world.

The best way to understand what I am doing and why is to read the material I am publishing on this site under The Attention Span which I have designed to publish my work independently (I explain why in this post), creating my own space where I can take the time to reflect, to analyse and to imagine our societies through writing, art and culture.
